Arlington, TX – [January 20, 2025] – SBL Architecture is thrilled to announce the promotion of Lindsay West, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, to Principal with SBL Architecture, reinforcing our commitment to the continued evolution of leadership within our firm. Lindsay’s promotion reflects our dedication to fostering talent from within our highly collaborative team of architects and designers. At SBL Architecture, our Principals lead in marketing, management, architectural design and planning, ensuring a cohesive approach to all facets of our practice.
Lindsay joined SBL Architecture in 2008, and over the years, she has distinguished herself as a leader in healthcare design and project delivery. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from The Ohio State University and a Master of Architecture with Honors from Washington University in St. Louis.
Lindsay’s path to architecture was shaped by a family legacy deeply rooted in architecture, engineering and innovation. Her father’s work in city utility regulations and her grandfather’s career as an engineer instilled a strong appreciation for technical precision. Early inspiration came from her great-grandfather, an architect who designed and built much of Three Lakes, WI, including the renowned Northernaire Resort. Alongside these influences, her mother, a teacher, nurtured Lindsay’s curiosity and passion for lifelong learning, encouraging her to explore and imagine.
“From a young age, I was surrounded by people who valued ingenuity and creativity,” Lindsay shares. “I grew up playing with Legos and Tinker Toys, and as I got older, I realized I could channel those same passions into a career in architecture.”
Throughout her career at SBL, Lindsay has steadily advanced through the firm, taking on various leadership roles that showcase her expertise and commitment to the firm’s growth. She leads SBL’s Employee Orientation and Training Program, fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration well beyond new employees’ first days. Her workshops, covering topics from Revit tips, Code Updates, and Time Management, equip team members with the tools they need for success.
As a Project Architect, Lindsay has played a key role in numerous projects for prominent healthcare clients, including Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital HEB, USMD Hospital at Arlington, St. Joseph’s Health in Paterson, NJ, and DMC Children’s Hospital in Detroit, MI. Her contributions have been instrumental in delivering functional, patient-centered solutions
Her favorite part of the design process? The Schematic Design phase. “This is where ideas truly start to take shape,” she says. Lindsay’s enthusiasm for problem-solving extends through construction, where she enjoys refining designs and seeing concepts come to life.
Lindsay is inspired by the ever-evolving nature of healthcare design and the chance to create tailored solutions that avoid a “cookie-cutter” approach. She values the complexity and diversity of the field, saying, “Every facility and department is different, even though they are the same.” Her commitment to understanding client communities ensures spaces not only meet functional needs but resonate with the populations they serve.
As a Principal, Lindsay will continue in her role as the Architectural Group Leader, with a vested interest and greater say in the firm’s future, contributing to corporate strategy and operational matters.
Outside of work, Lindsay enjoys time with her family and watching her son explore and build with Legos, just as she did as a child. She cherishes visits to Gettysburg, where childhood memories intertwine with the site’s rich history and landscapes. And she draws inspiration from architecture like Alvar and Aino Aalto’s Villa Mairea, which represents a balance of modernity and sustainability. Visiting this iconic building during her graduate studies left a lasting impression on her.
