Building Relationships, One Conversation (and One Helmet) at a Time

This morning, Mike, Lindsay, and I attended the ACHE Breakfast with the CEO, featuring Brandon Goertz, President of Texas Health Hospital HEB. These events are always insightful, but today’s was especially meaningful as we had the opportunity to meet Brandon in person and learn more about his background and leadership vision for HEB.

Our history with the hospital spans several leadership transitions, beginning with Deborah Paglianeli, then Fraser Hay, and later Jared Shelton.  Now, with Brandon leading the way, we wanted to make that personal connection and continue building on the foundation our firm has established through past work with Texas Health.

Brandon shared engaging insights into his leadership journey. With a background in neuroscience research and experience across San Antonio, Tyler, and now HEB, his career has been shaped by mentorship, consistency, and the power of networking. He spoke about one of his mentors who was a “one-helmet guy” — loyal, steady, and committed — much like his father, who was also a one-helmet guy. That message really resonated with me, as it reflects so much of our own culture at SBL Architecture.

87% of our team has been with SBL between ten and thirty-one years. We take great pride in being a “one-helmet firm” — loyal, steady, and always showing up for our clients and for one another. Lindsay, for example, has spent her entire career with SBL Architecture and continues to represent the firm’s values in every client interaction.

After the session, we had the opportunity to introduce ourselves to Brandon and briefly reconnect with Tim O’Ferrall, Senior Project Manager with Texas Health Resources. We’re hopeful this will open the door to future conversations about how our team can continue to support Texas Health HEB and its mission of Individuals Caring for Individuals, Together.

Proud of our “one-helmet team” — Mike and Lindsay (and myself, Jaime) — for always representing SBL Architecture with professionalism, warmth, and authenticity.
